Neenah standoff ends with man taking his life

NEENAH — Police say a distraught 26-year-old man shot himself with a high-powered rifle in his Neenah home Thursday as police and other emergency workers outside tried to intervene. A relative called police about 12:30 p.m. after the man threatened to shoot himself in his home on Higgins Street between Spruce and Division streets. A nearly three-hour standoff ensued, prompting police to close off traffic on nearby streets and alert residents through Winnebago County’s reverse 911 system to seek shelter inside their homes.
